Celery Juice: So what’s the “sitch”?

So I posted about this on social media a bit ago, but wanted to clarify the intent of my message!

“‘Celery juice’ is all the rage right now, so I figured it was high time I address the topic! Most of the “science” surrounding the idea of celery juice is actually “pseudo-science” (aka- not backed by hard, research-based evidence). That being said, there are a few benefits of #celeryjuice which we can confirm:

1- Improves #hydration status (high 💧 percentage)

2- Helps lower blood pressure (contains a compound that helps artery walls to relax; rich in potassium)

3- Aids in weight control (low-calorie beverage; 16 oz celery juice = ~80 kcal)

4- May contribute to cancer prevention, simply via increased intake of #fruits & #veggies (currently no studies on use of celery juice for humans; does contain a flavonoid that helps reduce one type of cancer activity)

5- Inflammation reduction (source of phytonutrients shown to have anti-inflammatory properties)

6- Celery juice is alkaline (beneficial for those needing to avoid an acidic diet)

•••

To be clear, none of these benefits are unique to celery juice. Each benefit listed above may also be conferred from celery stalks + a wide variety of other fruits & vegetables, from which are likely to contain a greater amount of fiber. So, please take from this message what you will.”

Clarification/Bottom line message: The benefits listed above are a few, from the very long list of purported benefits of celery juice, that are supported by science. None of these benefits are such that can ONLY be conferred from celery juice. Always prioritize whole fruits and vegetables, as opposed to their juiced forms. The juicing process strips produce of its fiber content and concentrates the sugar (not to forget, sugar is more harmful when consumed in beverage-form, due to the lack of mechanical digestion required). SOOO, pretty please focus on consuming a rainbow of fruits and vegetables, in their most wholesome form, as opposed to juicing OR emphasizing one fruit/veggie over the many others available! 😊
