Overnight Oats
Overnight Oats
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup uncooked old-fashioned oats
- ¾ - 1 cup liquid (water, skim milk, or unsweetened almond milk)
- “Mix-ins”:
o Fruit- diced green apples, peaches, berries
o Nuts- almonds, walnuts, pecans, natural nut butter (almond, cashew or peanut)
o Spices- cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger
Directions:
Night before:
1. Mix liquid (water, skim milk, or almond milk) with oats in a pot on the stove top.
2. Add “fixings”. Bring to a boil, then turn off the stove.
3. Let oats sit on stove top and cool somewhat before transferring to fridge.
Morning of:
1. Reheat oats on stove-top or in microwave.
Notes: *Cooked oatmeal keeps in refrigerator for ~3-5 days.
*Alternative preparation method would be to place all ingredients in a slow cooker, set to low heat, then cover and cook overnight for oats to be ready in the morning.
